Multilayered Edge-landscapes

There are There are different shades of water framed by the checkerboard salt pans in Tainan Chiku. When the wind blows, it causes the sparkling water surfaces in the sun. Local ecology, sea tides, industry and religious beliefs form the coastal lifestyle between the settlements and the salt pans at the edge of the city, and brew their own thickness of layer slowly in a thin landscape.

There are many settlements just like the islands in the abandoned coastal salt pans in Tainan. The settlements that were originally on the off-shore bars are surrounded by the fish farms and salt pans after years of environmental changes. Although the developments of the settlements are limited by the abandoned salt pans, local residents are still trying hard to live in coastal environment with the strong winds and high temperatures, and most of the people continue engaging in fishing activities and following the traditional beliefs. The Settlement of Cing Kun-shen is my site of study. I try to imagine the future of local environment, industry and living by analyzing the micro-climate.
